To grown & Learn & Change

 

Where a I take a job that requires skills I know I do not possess I must make every effort to become something different then I've been for 34 years. I must become a team player, a great talker and a worker of calm and logic. When emotions run high, I have to ask the right questions. When students needs are not getting met, I have to ask the team to step up one more time. And when they fall apart I have to be their rock and give them a listening ear.

In the end, as a coach and leader I must embody skills that I am asking my teammates to have. I must fight with passion, back down when I'm wrong and smile when I'm angry or play nice with the crazy. I must never leave my team stranded and take away their dignity. I must support them while guiding them.

This blog will become my journey and insight into this world. It will become the place where I change, transform, scream and rant. Where I put my big girlie panties on and admit defeat when it is necessary, or where I argue and convince myself that I am doing what is best for kids. For all that matters in the end is that the students receive the education they deserve and must have to move forward with their life.

I will not always be right but I will be passionate and I will forgive myself and my team for the mistakes that I know we will make. I will learn to hold my tongue and not make rash decisions without thinking through the information. I will ask questions, I will change my life to become the leader I want to become. And this blog will be the place where my journey begins. It will be the story of my failures and successes.

Roll a Rainbow:

Type: craft

Draw a rainbow on a sheet of paper. Dip the wheels of a toy vehicle in paint; then roll the vehicle along one arc, adding more paint to the wheels as needed. Continue with other vehicles and colors of paint for each remaining arc. To complete the project, glue a black pot cutout to one end of the rainbow. Then add gold glitter to the top of the pot so it resembles a pot of gold.

Teaching Preschool

Officially I have been teaching preschool for one month. I can't say I'm acclimated as on the weekends I tend to want to just sit and do nothing all weekend. Then come Sunday night I rush around the house trying to finish up all of the stuff I failed to do on Friday and Saturday, however, I am able to now get up during the week on time.  And I have managed to stay up till 8:30 or 9:00 most nights during the week. These little ones sure are a lot of work.  We're up, we're down, we're crawling on the ground.  I have to say though, I love it and do hope that eventually I will get my energy level where it needs to be so that I can be more productive during the week.

 

Last week we ventured outside for our first recess and it went really well. When it is cooler we will be venturing out everyday.

Week 1 is over

This last week was my first week of teaching preschool. It was a wild ride with lot's of up's and downs.

We worked on circle time, transitions, recess in the classroom (Due to hot weather), how to line up for snack and push in chairs and cleaning up centers.  We also did some bean bag Bogeying. The kids really like this song.

This is not my class-we're not quite there yet

I have a very eclectic group of students. We certainly have our work cut out for us. Some are young and just turned three while others will be moving forward in their education next year in kinder.

No matter what path they are on, my team and I will be working hard to prepare them for their futures.

 Oh yea, and the first day, 12 of 14 students broke down in tears.  It was crazy.

Saturday Tests

Long Saturday

This Saturday was a very long day. It started at 5:00 am driving 40 min. I had to drive from my house in Avondale to Gilbert for a teaching test. I didn't want to be late and I wanted some quiet time. So, I got up early and left when the family was still sleeping.

I decided since I was so early I would head to Einstein Bagels, because that is my favorite coffee shop and I don't get to go very often.

 Then I did some studying while I drank my delicious mocha and ate a bagel with honey walnut cream cheese.

                                           
   Some of my favorite type of dogs stopped by while I was there and I couldn't resist snapping a picture.

At 7:45 it was off to take my four hour early childhood test, it was hard.  I don't get my results until August! Keep your fingers crossed.

I finished early and I went to get lunch. I have never been to a Chicago dog it was amazing. My relish was neon green.

Then I went back to Gilbert High School for the Early Childhood Professional Knowledge test. This one took me 3 hours.

At 4:00 PM I was finally home and I decided that the only thing that would cure my lethargy was some swimming and ice cream.
